First National Bank's Junior Board of Directors kicked off the annual 2-day trip with an inside look at how business and leadership come to life in the real world.

The trip began with a visit to Whirlpool Corporation in Ottawa, where students toured the manufacturing facility and saw firsthand how large-scale operations run day to day. Students then stepped into the role of decision-makers during a hands-on business case activity. This interactive experience challenged them to think like plant leadership, making choices that impact productivity, problem-solving, and overall success. It was a valuable opportunity to apply critical thinking and see how everyday decisions shape business outcomes.

Day two shifted focus to public service, giving students a firsthand look at leadership at the state level.

The group met with Ohio Treasurer Robert Sprague and his team to learn about the responsibilities of the Treasurer’s Office and the importance of serving the public with integrity and accountability.

They also visited the Senate Chamber, where they met with representatives from Senator McColley’s office and the Senate Clerk. Sitting in the chamber itself, students gained a deeper understanding of how laws are introduced, discussed, and passed.

A conversation with State Representative Roy Klopfenstein provided additional insight into his role and the importance of getting involved locally. Students then observed a live Agricultural Committee meeting, offering a real-time look at the legislative process in action.

The day concluded with a guided tour of the Ohio Statehouse, where students explored the history and significance of Ohio’s government.
